Ransomware Help

Ransomware

Ransomware involves the execution of malicious software or a script on a victim's computer. It is typically spread by phishing emails and the victim unwittingly downloading and executing a ransomware payload on their computer.  There are two types of ransomware, the most common in recent years uses industry proven strong encryption to quickly encrypt files (i.e. word docs, excel, pictures etc). on a victim's PC and network drives. After which the software demands a payment in return to providing the user with a decryption key. The other type of ransomware locks the user out of their operating system or specific applications like internet explorer, although the files aren't encrypted cyber criminals still ask for a ransom to be paid to return access to the victim.

The file encryption ransom has been a growing problem in the last couple years, impacting both home users and businesses. Our most important piece of advice is to ensure backup of data files on a regular basis. Thanks to cheap cloud storage solutions, data backup for both home and business users are cheaper and more efficient than ever.
